Meili came back and that's weird.

Like we're friends. But he made so many faces that time I brought the whole gang at my folks', learning three generations were living under our roof, saying the food "smells weird", looking strange when my parents were talking to me in our language.

But we're friends. He protected me every time I needed it.

And I learnt he was once deployed in my family's homeland. I learnt it 'cause he sent me a picture. The place my parents' wedding picture was taken, but so many years later. It almost made me puke, I don't know why, I never walked on this land.

Now he is a veteran. MIssing an eye and a leg. That feels so wrong.

What's worse is that he eats sometimes at the restaurant I work in. With his new friends. He says so many hurtful things with them. About women. About immigrants. About the poor. He doesn't know I work here. And what, I should cry?

I miss you. So much.

What, I should be sad? Because he shielded me against the boys calling me a slut in middle school? Because he tried to explain to me every subject I failed in high school?

Because we were playing football in elementary and you and Tyr and Kaizarz let me, a girl, play in your team?

Because we are friends and yet you seem to resent people like me?

Or am I part of the "good ones" because my family was rich and fortunate enough not to rely on welfare?

Who am I kidding. I'm a woman who's working, with no higher education, and I am sleeping around. I don't even qualify for what you consider "worthy", do I?

We're short-staffed today. Which means I have to be the only waitress; as the only girl in the kitchen, can't say no. So I'm showing some tit and leg to get better tips. To help make ends meet.

with how it ends with peri doing a meta comment hoping they'll get a season 2. i think it's safe to assume the writers want a season 2. and with that in mind, it makes what happened with Dev something more similar to sequel bait than actual end of his character. i mean Peri's introduction was even through Dev, without him he'd be just. there. which would be a shame just in terms of writing. especially when the writer also clearly likes Peri since our man is the one having the final line of the season. in the same way I'm pretty sure the writers care a lot about Dev too, I mean, even in this finale at his darkest hour you had constant reminders of how he's just. desperate for his father's attention. So yeah.

Dev not remembering is likely not his intended final ending, just the logical one for this finale that also pushes you to want to see more. Hazel's friends and brother remembering is an opening for new situations in a second season (Hazel may get pushed to make wishes by them, even if sometimes involuntarily; Hazel may make more wishes directly involving them, allowing for newer stories that couldn't be carried by just Hazel Cosmo and Wanda); Dev forgetting is the bait to make you want a second season

thinking abt fresh and ink's relationship again.

neither of them care too much abt the concept of loyalty (or, rather, they do, but their loyalties lie almost exclusively with themselves), which leads to them not expecting loyalty from each other. despite referring to each other as friends and spending time together and helping each other out and even occasionally confiding in each other, neither would be surprised or betrayed or blame the other if they were to go against them.

and they have a lot of connections across the multiverse (sometimes in strange and unlikely places and people) due to their respective circumstances. so id imagine them having to fight against each other isn't exactly uncommon. and yet because this is not a betrayal to either, they go right back to being buddy-buddy after (well, unless they seriously injure each other, i guess. they can hold grudges but they generally get over them and go back to how things were)

anyway all that being said, i got struck with the thought of like- nightmare having to fight ink, and he recruits fresh's help without telling him hed be fighting ink and he expects there to be a lot of negativity—hes forcing two friends to fight each other, after all—but no. nothing. they just. fight.

and hes confused as hell.

anyway yeah he learns not to expect anything from those two

Has there ever been cats in the clans who struggle with (what humans would call) dissociation? When it gets to the extent it gets in the way of everyday activities, what would be the advice of seers, elders, and senior warriors?

It's been said elsewhere on this blog that Clan cats struggle a lot to deal with mental illnesses, and I feel like dissociation would be particularly difficult for them. This cat is not mentally slow, so they don't need to be treated like a kit or apprentice, and they aren't hallucinating, so they don't need to be cared for like an elder, nor are they doing anything dangerous to themselves that requires intervention. They're just...away from themselves, and it comes to them periodically, meaning it's not always there for a warrior to analyze and handle in a consistent way.

I don't think there's much they could do in this situation. God knows they'd have no way to define and classify it. I do think they could eventually figure out little actions to help bring the cat back to reality and their body when this occurs - if the cat comes back faster when having a physical feeling to focus on, for example, maybe their Clanmates can lean against them or groom them until they recover. Things like that. If the cat is more or less able to function through the sensation, they'll probably be instructed to have a friend with them when outside camp that can keep an eye out for anything dangerous while the dissociation runs its course. Other than that, they'd be given normal treatment and spoken to like they're completely normal and sensible. Which, really, they are, they just have little brain trips sometimes.

I'm not particularly well-researched on dissociation, and it's only happened to me once in my life, so, apologetically, I can't give a much more thorough answer than that. I doubt this would be worthy of sending the cat to the Houses, but it would be pretty tricky for the Clan, at least for a while until they figure out little tricks and have experience on how to handle this.
